I have a purpose!!

Hello All!!

Blog: Noun; a personal diary published on the internet.

Now, I am sure as hell not going to publish personal information for anyone to read. But a blog needs a purpose, and until now I haven't really had one. I just couldn't imagine what I had that no one else had; what in my life made it interesting and worth reading about.

Until now!

You see, I have always had an almost overpowering facination with language and the written word. I love immersing myself in language styles and form, developing my talents in different genres and creative avenues. I have dabbled in Fantasy and Short Story writing and during the HSC I received top marks in EXT2 English for my 8000 word short story, Blood Lines.

Now, I'm turning my attention to Crime Fiction. After studying it for two years in EXT1 English, it is a natural choice. I intend to write a novel. I've already started as a matter of fact.

So that's what this blog will be about!

I am in the midst of a long and difficult journey - and you lot are coming with me!

I'm already up to chapter 7. The story is about a woman named Robin Peakes, who is a former Private Investigator, and is now a drunk. She closed her P.I. business after her twin sister committed suicide. But she is brought out of retirement when the police require her assistance in a murder involving the daughter of local mob boss 'Wily' Dunwoodie. The novel will follow her as she tries to solve who killed the little mob angel and why.

There will be humour, at least that's what I'm aiming for. Robin is one of those characters that no one except the author would really like. She's sarcastic, rude and generally thrives on being a bitch to everyone. She refuses to connect with people, not even bothering to remember people's names, instead giving them derogatory nicknames. She judges people based on how they look. She isn't very nice at all.

The story isn't set in any particular place or any particular time. I leave that up to the discretion of the reader. There is a mid-fifties, American feel; but again I'll avoid setting the place and date in stone. I'd rather be more flexible with my culture references.

This blog will detail all the problems and triumphs I experience, any difficulties that arise and my general thought process throughout. It doesn't really bother me that nobody will read this, because I am only using this as an outlet. If people read it, great. If they don't, that's ok too!
